Catherine Hardwicke - Twilight's Talented Director
Catherine Hardwicke is the talented director of the first Twilight movie. She has directed just a few movies, including Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, and The Nativity Story. Although it may seem that all of her movies are oddly unrelated, they seem to all have something in common. They all involve teenagers. She seems to have a talent of looking at life through teenage eyes. Catherine Hardwicke has been quoted as being an energetic director and she seems young herself- even at the age of 50-something. She cares deeply about the stories that she brings to life onto the big screen, which is extremely important for Twilight fandom! After reading a denied Twilight movie script (which had Bella as a track star and wearing goggles) she realized how important it was to stick to the story in the book. Melissa Rosenberg wrote the Twilight movie script. Catherine is quite talented. She started out her career life as an architect in Texas. She found that this career was not as creative as she would like, so she sought for more creative expression by attending film school at UCLA. Most of her movie work has been as a movie production designer. She wrote and directed her first movie, Thirteen, in 2003. She wrote the screenplay with 13 year-old Nikki Reed in just 6 days. She has received several awards for her work, including the Sundance Film Festival Directing Award. Catherine also designed the Hollywood La Brea Gateway, which is a stainless steel gazebo on the southeast corner of Hollywood and La Brea, also known as the Four Ladies Statue. It is a tribute to the multi-ethnic women of Hollywood. The four ladies in the statue are Mae West, Dorothy Dandridge, Anna Mae Wong and Dolores Del Rio. We enjoy seeing her talent in action in Twilight.
