Esme Cullen is a Charming and Beautiful Vampire Wife and MotherEsme Cullen is the charming wife of Dr. Carlisle Cullen. She also acts as the “mother” of the vampire family (or coven) in this vampire love story. In 1921, Esme jumped off of a cliff after her newborn son died from a lung infection. He was her only reason for living. Her suicide attempt failed just slightly and she ended up in the same hospital as Dr. Carlisle. He had seen her as a happy and sweet teenager many years earlier (he treated her when she had a broken leg), so when he saw that her death was inevitable he couldn’t help but change her into a vampire.Esme’s power is her ability to love passionately. She also has very strong maternal feelings, so she takes on the role as mother very well. She loves Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, Alice, and now Bella like her own children. Her motherly role is manifested when she reprimands the other vampires or when she referees their vampire baseball games. She seems so motherly and classy that it is hard to imagine her hunting after a wild animal and sucking it dry. This caramel-haired beauty also loves to restore old homes and furniture. She has decorated all of their homes with an open, modern style. It is fun to see this in the movies. She and Carlisle make a very fitting couple, and they are well suited as the “mother” and “father” of this Cullen coven. To humans, the story is that the other vampires are all adopted. This is the only way a couple in their twenties could have children in their late teens. Carlisle and Esme sometimes go off and travel together as do the other couples. Carlisle bought Esme an entire Island in South America! I think he is one up on Edward on this one. (Uh, can I have an island too?)
